However, anxious to enliven the stonewalls and vaults and to use the spacious cellars to full capacity, Château de Cîteaux proposes to house personal wine collections. A living archeological treasure. In 1098 at the end of the 11th century, the monks of Cîteaux settled in the Saône valley where they founded the Abbey of Cîteaux.
